Tuesday August 1 – New York City (last day of the east coast tour)

Oh dear – Lesley’s sore throat is back again and she is now getting a bit of a runny nose. Ominous! Boston has a lot to answer for!
Breakfast was about 8am, then we were out and about around 9am. We caught the hop-on and went to Pier 11 to get the harbour cruise that came with the hop-on tickets.

The grey area above will be a huge neon sign soon!

Fearless Girl - added in March 2017 (internet)
Fearless Girl is placed facing Charging Bull - artist of Charging Bull is very unhappy about it, but city permission has been given for her to stay for 11 months. After that......

The harbour cruise went out to the Statue of Liberty (just on water – we didn’t land), and then around to see other landmarks.

We got aback to the pier around lunchtime so found some fresh cut fruit to eat. Very refreshing, and all we needed. We then re-joined the hop-on to do the uptown tour. This took us into Harlem and surrounds, a very bustling area.

This fires station suffered heavy losses of personnel in 9/11

This building (base) was never finished. Many years later a modern skyscraper was added above, combining styles and eras nicely

We came back for a shower, ready for our night out with the group. This is the last night of the east coast tour, so we had a farewell dinner at Carmines, a nice restaurant serving HEAPS of food.

part of our group
The restaurant packed up the leftover food and Gary took it to a homeless shelter. He does this in his civvie life when not on tour – he volunteers at a couple of shelters. We all meantime went to the theatre for our Broadway show: Miss Saigon. It was excellent!
